Well...Fall is here. This is one of my favourite times to be a photographer. The weather is cooler and it's almost always enjoyable to be outside, the smell of fallen leaves, the cool breezes and the colours...oh the colours. That has to be an all time favourite thing for me. No matter what time of day, even in the middle of the day the light seems somewhat warmer than it is in the middle of summer. Be it the leaves on the trees or the shorter days, I just love shooting in the fall, and both my clients and I always seem to have a little more fun than usual. It makes for a fun afternoon.
This shoot was no exception, the Whites are some of my oldest and dearest friends as well as one of my best customers. I've been friends with Mr. White since high-school when we thought we were the cool kids in band class. Mrs. White I met a little later when love bloomed under the lights of the SkyDome where they both worked for a time in our younger days. I even met the woman who would become my wife at their wedding.
We had originally arranged the shoot for a couple of weeks prior...but the weather and colours didn't cooperate so we rescheduled. Well the day we ended up with was perfection. Warmer than seasonal with sunny skies and dry conditions. Perfect. We decided to shoot outdoors at the Guelph Arbouretum, a very popular spot for both family shots and weddings alike. Its the kind of spot that affords a variety of locales, from trees and shrubs to grassy areas even a great dirt road and surrounding trees. It really is a photographer's dream spot.
So we set out to pick our spots. A few shady spots and about an hour and a half later we had, in my opinion, some of the strongest photos of the family that I've shot so far. As always it's great to catch up with the family and spend time together, even if it was in a "professional" capacity rather than a social one...but we kind of turned it social anyway.
Thank you again to the White family for another great outing and thank you for being great friends and great clients.
